2021 Asian Champions League: UAE Federation names Burjeel hospitals

The UAE Football Association (UAEFA) has named VPS Healthcare’s Burjeel Hospitals as the official partner for the upcoming Asian Champions League group stage in Sharjah. The health group, which was the IPL 2020 medical partner, will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical services for the tournament.

The partnership was officially announced on Sunday at a signing ceremony at the headquarters of the United Arab Emirates Football Association in Dubai by Mohammed Hazzam Al Dhaheri, UAEFA General Secretary and Dr Shajir Gaffar CEO of VPS Healthcare.

UAE to host Asian Champions League group matches expected to be held in Sharjah; which consists of four teams: Sharjah (UAE), Pakhtakor (UZB), Tractor (IRN) and the winner of Al Wahda (KSA) and Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya (IRQ). As per the agreement, Burjeel Hospitals will provide a full and comprehensive medical solution required for the gathering. It includes pre-competition medical evaluation, treatment for injured players, paramedical support for teams at sports venues, and inpatient treatment for players and team members at Burjeel hospitals in Dubai and Sharjah.

Speaking on the partnership, UAEFA Secretary General Mohammed Hazzam Al Dhaheri expressed his happiness to form a partnership with VPS Healthcare, stressing that it would serve all sectors of UAE football locally and that its positive effects would be signed shortly. He said support for national competitions is nothing new for the health giant as his administration believes in the importance of sport and its great role in the development, stability and coexistence of people.

The General Secretary expressed his gratitude to the management of VPS – Burjeel Hospitals, praising their dedication to the service of sport, stressing that the Football Association will do everything possible to be successful in all sectors.

VPS Healthcare President and CEO Dr Shamsheer Vayalil said: “We are proud to have been selected by the United Arab Emirates Football Association as the official partner of the Asian Champions League. In this role, VPS Healthcare will offer full services to ensure the smooth running of the matches. We take on this mission with great honor and responsibility. Our medical team is well trained and has immense experience in coordinating and facilitating the medical requirements for IPL 2020 and several other international tournaments. The team has an excellent track record in handling the medical demands of a series of sporting events held in the country such as the UFC Championship, Abu Dhabi Showdown Week, Abu Dhabi Water Sports, the UAE boxing championship, Spinneys and UAE cycling, Spartans fitness events, Abu Dhabi Triathlon and flash entertainment.

The healthcare group had been the official medical partner of the cricket extravaganza – IPL 2020 – held in the United Arab Emirates. In this role, the group had been responsible for maintaining the bio-bubble for the tournament, performing the COVID-19 test for players and stakeholders, and providing all other medical services.
