Abilene High grad Smith shines for Baylor football team

Abram Smith, a 2017 Abilene High graduate, ran for a team-top 97 yards and a 10-carry touchdown in Baylor’s 24-14 loss to Oklahoma State’s No.18 in a game of the Big 12 Conference Saturday in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

The senior running back pulled off a 55-yard touchdown rush to bring the Bears down to under seven (14-7) with 3:14 left in the third quarter.

Baylor (4-1, 2-1) faces West Virginia (2-3, 0-2) at 11 a.m. Saturday in a conference game in Waco.

Wright scores two tackles in Tulsa loss

Justin Wright, a 2016 Cooper graduate, had two tackles, both solo, in Tulsa’s 45-10 loss to Houston on Saturday in Tulsa.

Wright, a junior linebacker in a red shirt, started for the Golden Hurricane.

The Golden Hurricane (1-4, 0-2) face Memphis (3-2, 0-1) on Saturday in an American Athletic Conference game in Tulsa.

Tarleton’s Wilson adds to tackle total

Ronnell Wilson, a 2016 Abilene High graduate, made three tackles, including one solo, in Tarleton State’s 20-3 loss to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.

The senior linebacker is fourth on the Texans’ all-time tackle list with 325 career tackles. It takes him three to tie Marquis Wadley (328 of 2011-13) for third place and 14 to tie with Robert Ivey (339, 1985-88) for second. Tally Neal (613, 1975-78) is the first.

Tarleton (2-3) has a pass this week before playing against Dixie State in the Western Athletic Conference game Oct. 16 in St. George, Utah. Both teams are in their second four-year transition to full Division I status and will not be eligible for the playoffs until 2024.

McMillon, AHS graduate, starts for TCU

Coy McMillion, a 2017 Abilene High School graduate, started at the TCU center in the Horned Frogs’ 32-27 loss to Texas in a Big 12 Conference game on Saturday in Fort Worth.

The 6-4, 304-pound senior center has played 39 straight games for the Horned Frogs (2-2, 0-1), who face Texas Tech (4-1, 1-0) at 6 p.m. Saturday in a game conference in Lubbock.

Cooper grad Davis gets a stop

Dylon Davis, a 2020 Cooper graduate, pulled off a tackle, a solo save, in Midwest State’s No.11 30-20 loss to central Washington on Saturday in Ellesburg, Wash.

The sophomore defensive back is fifth on the team with 19 tackles (15 solo) this season. He has two interceptions, both returned for 23 and 70 yard touchdowns, and forced a fumble.

Midwestern (4-1, 3-0) faces Texas A & M-Kingsville (2-2, 1-1) in a Lone Star Conference game at 7 p.m. Saturday in Wichita Falls.
