American football – FC Dnepr Fri, 13 May 2022 18:05:01 +0000 en-US hourly 1 American football – FC Dnepr 32 32 NFL | American football | Friday, May 13, 2022 Fri, 13 May 2022 18:05:01 +0000

Something the NFL seems to want to do is turn its sport into a spectacle by its own power. Leaders aren’t afraid to get involved, and between six planners and a cloud-based luminary formulation computer, they produce an end product that brings excitement, thrills and drama to the course. an 18-week season.

Following the announcement of Week 1 fixtures, we take a look at the games we’re most excited for.

Buffalo Bills @ LA Rams

Super Bowl contenders versus Super Bowl champions. Oh dear. This game is a tone creator. There is no doubt that this will be one of the best games of the regular season. New signings on either side of the ball for both teams will be keen to make an impression on their new fans and coaches. Both teams know that everyone will watch the game to see what standards are set. The Bills will be ready for the trip to SoFI Stadium while the Rams will have the luxury of playing in the stadium where they last won a Super Bowl. First-class programming will hopefully deliver first-class gameplay.

Denver Broncos @ Seattle Seahawks

The derby of Drew Lock, Noah Fant and Shelby Harris. Oh yeah and Russell Wilson returns to Seattle to play his first game since his successful move to Denver. It’s something new for everyone. You expect a warm welcome for the former Super Bowl winner considering he knows full well how hostile the stadium can be anyway. Will Pete Carroll and his Seattle team be ready for Wilson and his new team or can the new Bronco knock out Lumen Field and inflict a loss on Day 1? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Tampa Bay Bucanneers @ Dallas Cowboys

The reverse of this game was the opener for both teams last season on Thursday Night Football and did not disappoint as the Buccaneers emerged 31-29 winners at Raymond James Stadium. This time around, Tom Brady returns for his 23rd, yes, 23rd season after announcing his decision to end his retirement after just 44 days.

He will be without Tight-End star Rob Gronkowski, who as it stands is yet to sign a new contract with the Bucs. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys are hoping they can beat Tom Brady and co to extend their winning record against the Bucs to 16-5. Every year seems like a “it’s their year” for Dallas, so we won’t say much about them just yet, we’ll let them do the talking.

Las Vegas Raiders @ LA Chargers

This game was one of the games of the season last year. Both teams were playing for a playoff berth and it was the Raiders who took the 35-32 victory in overtime. Now, in the first game of the 2022/23 season, it is the Raiders who travel to the Chargers. These two teams have intelligently recruited during the off-season and we’ll see the likes of Davante Adams and Chandler Jones take on Khalil Mack and JC Jackson. Prepare the popcorn, it will be a cracker.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Arizona Cardinals

A Kansas City offense without Tyreek Hill and a defense without Tyrann Mathieu is something everyone is intrigued to see. It’s yet to be decided if we’ll see an Arizona Cardinals without Kyler Murray. One thing is certain and that is that it will be a very entertaining game. The Chiefs still have Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, along with new additions in JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, so you can’t rule them out at all.

Life for the Cardinals is slightly tougher with star receiver DeAndre Hopkins currently facing a six-week absence after being hit with a doping ban by NFL officials. He denies the charge and will fight the ban so we can still see him in Week 1. With both of these teams looking to go deeper into the playoffs, this could be a very tasty encounter to kick off the season.

How American Football Helped These Immigrant Brothers Accept Being Different Mon, 09 May 2022 03:00:00 +0000

Komotay Koffie is coming out of Landow Performance in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado, USA, where he has just completed another training session in his quest to join his brother, Indianapolis Colts rusher Kwity Paye, in the NFL.

“I’m not even supposed to be here,” offers Koffie, 25, a chiseled 6-foot-1-inch (185cm), 200-pound (90.7kg) defensive back from northern Colorado who was born in a refugee camp. in Sierra Leone.

He’s not worried about the break he’s taking on the eve of his pro day at college, where he’ll perform 20 reps on the bench press and solidify his status as a potential pick for Day 3.

What he means is that he shouldn’t even be here in the United States.

When war followed their family to Guinea, where Kwity was born, Agnes Paye contacted her grandmother in Rhode Island, who agreed to sponsor her so she could move to the United States.

Except she failed to put the children’s names on the immigration affidavit. It was hard enough leaving the boys’ father behind; abandoning her young children was out of the question.

“I told them I couldn’t leave my babies,” she said.

A woman processing her papers fell in love with her precocious children and added the names of the boys under Agnes – Komotay and Kwity are full-blood brothers; their different surnames are a cultural tradition – and all three have been granted passage to a better life.

“It was just a blessing,” Agnes said. “I knew God had a better place for these children.

“We were just coming to survive, to be at peace, a place where you don’t have to get up in the morning and run for your life or worry about finding food.”

Yet even in the United States, she found herself keeping her boys away from the sounds of gunfire that occasionally rocked their modest apartment.

To keep them out of the streets and out of trouble, she signed them up for sports at the Boys & Girls Club – soccer, basketball, track and field. When the football season started, she signed them up for it too.

When they got to that first practice and heard the thud of bodies crashing into each other, “we were scared to play,” Koffie said.

When the coaches asked all the children to bring their birth certificates the next day, the brothers, who were years away from becoming US citizens, could only provide their immigration cards.

“It looked like a mug shot with all those fancy numbers,” Koffie recalled, “and I remember me and Kwity being embarrassed to even pull them out because they singled us out.”

It was one more thing to laugh at, along with their accentuated English and West African diet. Those taunts, however, “only added to our fire,” Koffie said.

“It was like, ‘OK, you want to bring us out and tease us like we’re different, we’re going to show you how different we are,'” Koffie recalled.

The brothers made a pact to run faster and hit harder than the other kids.

“When we stepped onto the football pitch, it was like no one could compare to us. We were on a whole different level. We stood out,” he said.

They quickly won over their teammates and quickly learned the ins and outs of the game.

“And that’s when we fell in love with it,” Koffie said.

So they made another vow to do whatever they could to thank their mother, who worked long hours as a nursing assistant, for all she had done to give them a better life.

“I remember we were in our bedroom one night, we were between 10 and 8 years old and we promised ourselves that we would do everything we could to get her out of there,” Koffie said.

His younger brother became a 6-foot-2 (188 cm), 260-pound (118 kg) defensive end who, after playing at Bishop Hendrickson, a Catholic academy in Warwick, Rhode Island, excelled at the University of Michigan on his way to becoming a first-round pick in last year’s NFL Draft.

“The first thing he did was retire my mom and buy her a car,” Koffie said. “Then he started working to find her a nice home.”

If Koffie can join his little brother in the NFL, he wants to bring in their father, who didn’t have a sponsor like their mother did when she fled war nearly a quarter century ago.

“The war separated them all those years ago, but they’re back together now, they’re engaged,” Koffie said. “I want to try to bring him here to America so we can all be family again.”

Agnes is nervous ahead of this year’s draft.

“With Kwity, we were sure,” she said. “For Komotay, I’m just a little nervous and praying someone gives him a chance because he’s a fighter.”

At age 15, he moved with a family friend to Tennessee to face better competition and try to get a college scholarship.

After three seasons at Knoxville Central High School, Koffie transferred to Milford Academy in New York for his final season.

He played a year of junior college ball at North Dakota College of Sciences, earning that coveted New Mexico State University Division I scholarship.

He moved to northern Colorado for his final season so he could play for head coach Ed McCaffrey and secondary coach Jimmy Spencer, who had 25 years of NFL experience.

He earned his criminal justice degree when the pandemic wiped out the Bears’ 2021 season, then provided leadership and savvy play in McCaffrey’s inaugural season in 2022 while his younger brother played his rookie season in Indianapolis.

“My brother took a straight route to the NFL and my route was up and down,” said Koffie, who played safety, cornerback, nickelback and inside linebacker, a versatility that he hopes will he, makes him an attractive prospect for someone.

“I’m just hoping for an opportunity,” Koffie said. “The thing with me, once I get my foot in the door, I’ll take care of the rest.”

Here’s the amazing part: Despite their two-year age difference and divergent backgrounds, the brothers never played football together.

“We were never on the same pitch either. We trained at different times,” Koffie said. “So my brother never saw me play.”

That could soon change.

“I just spoke to him last night,” Koffie said. “I thought, ‘Would it be crazy to be on the same pitch warming up? I tell you, it would probably be a very emotional moment to look across the grass and see each other.

The success of the Invergordon club contributes to the development of American football in the Highlands Sun, 01 May 2022 07:07:30 +0000

Highland Stags general manager Tom Hutchison believes American football is on an upward trajectory in the region – recognition of the Stags in particular continues to grow.

Highland deer

The club, which plays its home matches at the Ross Sutherland Rugby Club ground in Invergordon, is in its first season as a full member of the British American Football Association (BAFA).

They have been around for years, however, as an outlet for adults to play the sport.

Things took things to the next level last year when, as associate members essentially auditioning for their place in the association, the Stags won the Saltire Division made up of Scottish clubs.

As with most other sports, success sparks interest and Hutchison has seen an increase in awareness and support for the club following recent developments.

This, he hopes, will in turn lead to new opportunities to take the club forward in the near future.

“I have a vision of where we want to be – we’re not quite there yet, but we’ll get there,” Hutchison said.

“I’ve been involved in American football since 1999, and I’ve noticed that more and more people in general are recognizing American football.

“This year, starting well, we are attracting more people than we have before.

“We’re becoming more and more recognizable in the community – I wear my hoodie quite regularly, and I’m quite often stopped and asked about it, or by people who have seen our scores.

“We are not tied to the Highland Wildcats. I played for them as a kid so I know them very well and they did a fantastic job publicizing the game. For the first few years people knew who the Wildcats were but they didn’t really know who we were. were.

“They didn’t recognize us, or they thought we were all the same, but we are a special team. There’s no direct connection as such, but more people come in and more people recognize the team.

“It also helps with sponsors. It’s not a cheap game to play – our trip to Dumfries cost well over £1000 for a game.

“It costs money, so having sponsors there really helps. We are in the process of agreeing on a sponsor for our uniforms, so we will have new uniforms. here a week or two.”

2022 Indianapolis Colts NFL Draft Class | Football Sat, 30 Apr 2022 19:12:00 +0000

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WSIL) — The Indianapolis Colts brought some firepower to the NFL Draft this weekend.

The Colts are an extremely talented and well-run organization from top to bottom. General manager Chris Ballard and head coach Frank Reich are considered among the best in the league in their respective positions. The defense is well-trained and highly disciplined, led by one of the best young linebackers in the league, Darius Leonard. The offense is a whole different story, however. While they have very good pieces in place like Michael Pittman, Jonathan Taylor and Quenton Nelson, the Colts have failed to integrate the most important piece: the quarterback.

Inconsistent play coming from the most important position in football is what caused the Colts to fall far short of expectations last year, trailing a 9-8 record, narrowly missing out on the playoffs.

The Colts have sought to address the issue this offseason by bringing in former MVP Matt Ryan to run the position and bringing in young talent from this year’s draft. Although the Colts didn’t have a first-round pick this year, they have eight total picks in the draft.

Round 2 (53): Alec Pierce – WR – Cincinnati – Pierce is a big, physical receiver who can grab tough catches in traffic. He will be a great security blanket for QB Matt Ryan.

Round 3 (73): Jelani Woods – TE – Virginia – Woods has a big frame that will make an easy target for the QB in the passing game. He will be a development project, with the potential to play on special teams.

Round 3 (77): Bernhard Raimann – OT – Central Michigan – Raimann has very impressive athleticism and really solid fundamentals. He’s known for his intelligence, so he should adapt quickly and be a solid Colts quarterback protector for years to come.

Round 3 (96): Nick Cross – S – Maryland – Cross has a combination of size and speed that is rare for the position. He could seriously compete for the starting safety spot.

Round 5 (159): Eric Johnson – DT – Missouri State – Johnson has great strength to engage blockers and has the ability to quickly recover from unfavorable positions and make an impact. An interesting prospect that could have an impact sooner rather than later.

Round 6 (192): Andrew Ogletree – TE – Youngstown State – Ogletree is a very fluid athlete, but he desperately needs to improve his catching and blocking ability. It is a development project that can turn into something more.

Round 6 (216): Curtis Brooks – DT – Cincinnati – Overall, Brooks is a very solid defensive tackle who performed well in college. A solid contributor.

Round 7 (239): Rodney Thomas ll – S – Yale – Solid security that could contribute to special teams.

]]> American football is not boring. Here’s why. Thu, 28 Apr 2022 09:40:39 +0000

If you’re brave enough or bored enough, one day you might just google “American football isn’t boring.”

On that day, you will find that even Google’s algorithm disagrees with you at all. Because to do what – as Quora’s submission and first search result ostensibly query – Americans think football is boring but find football, a game with only an average of 11 minutes played over three hours, interesting?

Well. It hardly has the quality of a convincing elevator pitch. Have your say on which sport reigns supreme and which one deserves the trash treatment in the survey below – but beware of putting American football at the bottom of this list.

American football will always be the stick with which his more worldly sports peers regularly beat him. The NFL is not doing itself any favors. At its best, the cover is cheerfully garish and over the top. He adores himself. With all its flashing lights and zippy graphics, loud commentary and sparkling fireworks. Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre stood somewhere in the middle.

The NFL, at its core, is a spectacle. A good one more. And if that ruffles your goose, then you’ve found yourself the least annoying spot of all. There are very few things more satisfying in life than a knuckle-gnawing tackle from Aaron Donald on Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” soundtrack.

But I’m talking about sport opponents will be naysay. Get rid of all the pizzazz, cheerleaders and Eminem. What’s left?

A good question. At first glance ? Big big tackles! A 44-year-old Tom Brady with the arm of a lively catapult! The icy veins of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow! And, of course, a certain irony.

Do you think the NFL is ‘boring’? Let us know in the comments section below.

The NFL is considered the pinnacle of American masculinity

Considered the pinnacle of American masculinity, he is also covered in epaulettes and helmets. Rugby fans bemoan tackling techniques. They laugh at their pads and constant substitutions and game breaks. Even American football’s padded cousins in hockey arenas can’t help but laugh. At least in hockey, punches are thrown without a helmet. There are no commercial breaks.

So, well, yes. If you’re looking for that kind of constant uproar, you’ve come to the wrong sport.

But – and there’s a but – American football isn’t boring.

Like any sport, American football requires understanding. Despite its marketing as a brutal pastime for the brothers, the matches play out much more like tactical chess matches. Each play accumulates a counter play by the manager’s opposite number. Teams study the tape, they analyze the opponents, they forge game plans specifically to undermine the opposition’s forged game plan. Each move has a counter, and each counter, if properly countered, can land a killing blow. Chess, with testosterone.

Brady is the biggest sports star

Then there are the splashes of moments when game plans come to life. Gravity-defying pliers. Finger grips. Dare-devil Hercules throws 60 yards down a pitch with a cavalcade of heel-biting defenders. There are blows that crack the ribs. The five-foot moon pounced on a rushing defender from a running back who momentarily transformed into Hot Wheels with trampoline feet. Really, look at all that a good running back does – all the silky dancing feet frolicking through a battlefield of slice-hard defenders.

And everything is celebrated. All. Sacks, fourth conversions, an eight-yard run that left a defender clutching at him looking thin and empty. Any moment of individual brilliance and there they are: thumping, robot dancing, jigging, strutting, mocking and roaring, dripping with venom and verve. The grill? Thanks to Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase for that, Tik Tokkers.

Fashion alone is worthy of praise. Terrier repeatedly broke the internet with his ridiculously cool drip. Those diamonds? Real. Make a black turtleneck and chain even more iconic? A day job.

And what other sport can claim the honor of being the birthplace of The groping of the buttocks? The most magnificent sports blunder to ever hit screens was when 26-year-old Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez ran into the magnanimous back of linebacker Brandon Moore only for the New England Patriots to pick up the loose ball and throw it back for the plus. heartbreak of touchdown concessions.

The last SuperBowl was watched around the world

It was the biggest pig’s ear of them all, a 2012 non-masterclass masterclass that still throws out rude memes and punchlines today and had to be removed from SportsCenter. Not top 10 after 40 weeks because it is simply. Kept. On. Winner.

American football is, quite simply, pure fun entertainment. In the UK, NFL fans aren’t bothered by adverts during long breaks from play. Instead, they benefit from in-depth conversational analysis from experts and former players. And the more one realizes how difficult it is to separate a cutting-edge defense with the offensive line from a sieve (see: Joe Burrow and the Bengals 2020-21), the more one rises and applauds the whole entertaining spectacle.

American football is pure fun entertainment

There are those who still point to the time element. A game regularly lasts more than three hours. Well, cricket can last up to five days. Days. Don’t even get into golf.

If anything, the three-hour period is an excuse to really milk the sport for all it’s worth. Take out the cans. Take a foot long. Take two. And then, when Tom Brady throws his 650th career touchdown pass this coming season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he hit the grid.
