By Kyle Saxon, Senior Editor

For the thousands of Panther fans at Heinz Field on a Pitt football game day, there are rarely any guarantees about what will happen on the pitch. But Pitt’s loyalists can always leave the stadium confident that there will be a great spot for a post-game meal.

While many people may rush home to visit their favorite restaurant or cook their own food, there are many fantastic options within walking distance of the stadium. For those who want to explore more of the city or just can’t wait to eat after the game, here are some of the best food options to consider after Pitt football games.

Burgatory is a restaurant staple in the Pittsburgh area. The local chain has nine locations around town, one of which is actually located inside Heinz Field. But for those who prefer a true seated environment, a six-minute walk down North Shore Drive after the game is certainly worth it.

The specialty of this upbeat place is pretty obvious in its title, as Burgatory has one of the best burger selections in town. Along with their 10 specialty offerings, they also have a game-changing personalized burger option which is always my go-to choice. Visitors can create their own burger from scratch, with many types of meats and toppings available, as well as vegetarian options.

Another part of the menu is their wide selection of milkshakes, with my favorite –– Campfire S’Mores. While the menu is certainly aimed at those with a particular craving for a burger and milkshake, there are a variety of starters and salads available.

Burgatory also offers bar seating and plenty of TVs to continue watching college football games that remain on any given Saturday.

Taps and tacos

For those in the mood for a taco or a burrito, a walk right past PNC Park will lead to a fantastic location. Taps and Taco offers a wide selection of tacos, salads, burritos and bowls as well as plenty of customization options.

This restaurant provides a friendly environment for Pittsburgh fans to gather before and after games. For older children, Taps and Taco is also proud of its wide selection of margaritas, cocktails and other alcoholic drinks.

Taps and Taco is a great option for those looking to explore the area in depth. For me, a few “Hog Wild” tacos always make my trips to the North Shore much better.

City works

While there are a plethora of other great options on the North Coast, some fans may prefer a scenic ride across the Fort Duquesne Bridge to the famous Point State Park. A few blocks from the tourist attraction is one of Pittsburgh’s best dining environments –– Market Square.

For those who haven’t finished watching college football for the day, City Works presents an incredible environment for sports fans. The famous sports bar has 15 flat screen TVs and a very open dining area with indoor and outdoor seating. When it comes to their food, City Works has just about everything.

The appetizers and main courses offer a range of classic American, Mexican and Italian dishes, as well as seafood dishes. Buffalo chicken dip and pulled pork sandwiches never disappoint after a football game Panther.

While most TVs are located in the bar section, they are visible from anywhere in the 11,200 square foot dining room, making City Works an unrivaled environment to socialize and soak up the full experience. of a day of play in Pittsburgh.

The courtyard

Another market square staple, The Yard has several locations around the city, none more welcoming than their downtown restaurant. The selection of appetizers is unmatched, with several different types of wings, flatbreads and salads.

It’s impossible to talk about The Yard without mentioning the selection of grilled cheeses. Visitors can choose between 22 creative variations of grilled cheese sandwiches -the best is “Los Pollos Hermanos”. With excellent burgers and desserts, The Yard truly offers an exclusive dining experience.

Above all, the environment of Market Square takes this restaurant to the next level.

While many fans may try to keep traffic down after a game, these are four of the many delicious and energetic post-game dining options that the city of Pittsburgh has to offer on the North Coast and just across. from the Allegheny river.
