Itanagar: Prime Minister Pema Khandou was re-elected chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) for the next four years on Thursday at its annual general meeting held in Tawang.
Khandu was unanimously elected President of the Association four years ago for the first time.
Thanking APFA members, representatives from various District Football Associations (DFAs), he said it would be his privilege to lead the body and contribute to the development of football as well as other sports in the Northeastern State.
You must understand that as Chief Minister of State, I will not be physically available for all Association decisions and events. But whenever my personal intervention as president of APFA is needed, I will be there, he said.
Khandu asked the APFA to work closely with the sports department, especially the district football associations and with the district sports officers, an official statement said.
He admitted that help in terms of government grants or funds would not be enough as there are around 39 associations of various sports registered with the Department of Sports.
Instead of depending on the government for grants, the APFA will partner with companies and invite them to sponsor events or teams so that young footballers can be nurtured while maintaining football’s popularity with the masses, said the chief minister.
Khandu said it is the responsibility of APFA to rejuvenate and revise the old district football associations.
Setting the tone for APFA’s future goals, the Chief Minister said his efforts over the next four years would be to promote women’s football, scout and nurture young talent, allocate a football pitch to all DFA and improve Tadar Tang state level football tournament. grant from Rs 20 lakhs to Rs 50 lakhs, which is the only annual event organized by APFA.
The APFA will coordinate with all other sports associations, the Arunachal Olympic Association, the Department of Sports and the National Sports Authority to advance all sports and recreational activities in the state, he said. added.
