Limestone football team is enjoying its most successful season in program history

THE LIMESTONE FOOTBALL TEAM GOT A NEW HEAD COACH THIS YEAR WITH THE HELP OF HIS TEAM HE BUILT SOMETHING SPECIAL IN GAFFNEY. IF YOU LOOK AROUND A LIMESTONE FOOTBALL PRACTICE, EVERYWHERE YOU TURN THERE IS A FORMER NFL PLAYER, SUPER BOWL CHAMPION 12-YEAR-OLD NFL VETERAN ANTHONY NATE GARNER WHO WAS A TEAM MATE OF COVENTRY WHEN BOTH WERE WITH THE NEW YORK JETS. JORDAN TODMAN, A FORMER RUNNING BACK WITH SEVEN YEARS OF NFL EXPERIENCE. AND HEAD COACH MIKE PERRY, WHO PLAYED EIGHT YEARS IN THE LEAGUE. IT’S GREAT TO SIT IN THE OFFICE WITH THESE GUYS ONE ON ONE AND LISTEN TO THEIR STORY AND SEE HOW IT RELATES TO EVERYTHING I HAVE BEEN SO LUCKY TO HAVE PASSED. THE FIRST TRIP TO THE NFL WAS FILLED WITH A LOT OF ADVERSITY. HE HAD NO DIVISION 1 SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL FOR ANY REASON. WHAT WAS IN MY BRAIN, YOU KNOW, I’M NOT THE TALENTED RIGHT NOW IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT I CAN WORK MORE THAN PEOPLE. HE WALKED AT OHIO STATE, BUT AFTER FIGHTING TO GET PLAY TIME AND BEING TOLD HE WON’T GET ON A SCHOLARSHIP, HE TRANSFERRED TO NORTHERN IOWA. HE WAS A THREE-TIME ALL-AMERICAN FOR THE PANTHERS, BUT IS STILL NOT RE-AWARDED. HE GOT AN OPPORTUNITY WITH THE COLTS AS A FREE AGENT BUT THEY CUT HIM BEFORE THIS SEASON HE SPENT TIME IN THE XFL IN THE ARENA FOOTBALL LEAGUE BEFORE FINALLY GET ANOTHER CHANCE IN THE NFL IN 2006, SIX, SIX YEARS AFTER BEING CUT BY THE . HE MADE A NAME WITH THE DETROIT LIONS FINISHING SECOND IN THE NFL IN RECEPTIONS. WHEN I PLAYED WITH THE DETROIT LIONS AND I DID IT AFTER MY BIG YEAR, WHAT MANY PEOPLE DON’T REALIZE IS A YEAR OR MORE PRIOR TO THAT, I WENT HOME AND TRAINED A NUMBER OF KIDS IN HIGH SCHOOL AND GOING TO COLLEGE WHILE I WAS IN THE NFL AND I LOVED THE PROCESS OF HELPING THESE KIDS. BECAUSE HIS PLAYING CAREER HAS BEEN DEFINED BY HIS PASSION AND WORK ETHIC. THESE QUALITIES DEFINE LIMESTONE TODAY. I TELL THESE GUYS THE TIME YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE WHO HAS WORKED SO HARD. AND WE HAVE BEEN HERE FOR, I THINK, FIVE MONTHS NOW, AND I CAN’T COUNT HOW MANY DAYS. I DON’T EVEN KNOW THERE WAS A DAY WHEN THE TEMPO DIDN’T GET HIGH. FREE ENERGY PRACTICE WAS ALL OVER THE NFL FIELD, PLAYING SPECIAL TEAMS, DEFENSE AND OFFENSE. NOW HE’S ALL OVER THE GAFFNEY FIELDS. THIS IS HIS SECOND STAY WITH THE SAINTS, WHICH HE LEFT IN 2018 TO COACH IN THE NFL. BUT HIS REAL PASSION IS HELPING COLLEGE ATHLETES. WE BRING THESE POSITIONS TO LIFE, NOT JUST FOR OURSELVES, BUT TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THOSE THINGS WE HAVE PASSED AND BE ABLE TO APPLY IT OR HELP SOMEONE ELSE CHANGE IT, IMPACT ON THEIR LIVES. AS THIS IS WHAT WE ARE CALLED TO DO AS COACHES. THE SAINTS COACHING STAFF HAVE MORE THAN 40 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN THE NFL AND TOGETHER THEY HAVE TRANSFORMED THE PROGRAM OVER THE PAST EIGHT YEARS. LIMESTONE HAS NEVER HAD A WINNING SEASON. THEY ONLY WIN ONE MATCH IN TWO YEARS BEFORE THIS SEASON. AT THIS MOMENT, THE SAINTS ARE SIX AND THREE. THE VICTORIES THEY HAVE EVER CONCERNED. NOW BECOME MORE OF THE TEAM WHERE THEY ARE LIKE, YOU KNOW THE TYPE GUYS WHERE NOW GUYS HAVE TO START PREPARING FOR WHO WE ARE UNITED IN A BROTHERHOOD. THIS IS THE SAINTS. COACHES DESCRIBE THE CULTURE PERRY HAS BUILT AT LIMESTONE. I THINK IT COMES FROM PLAYING FOOTBALL OR PLAYING IN THE LEAGUE OR BEING PART OF SOMETHING. WE KNOW WHAT IT TAKES. WE KNOW, YOU KNOW, THE HARD WORK WE PUT TO BE HERE. AND WE TREAT EACH OTHER LIKE BROTHERS. I MEAN A LOT TO ME AS IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO COME HERE AND BE ON THIS PITCH WITH THESE CHILDREN AND HELP THEM DEVELOP AND GROW. AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERY MINUTE. I HAVE THE TIME OF MY LIFE. I TELL EVERYONE I SPEAK UP COACHING WITH THESE GUYS AND I HAVE FUN, YOU KNOW, WORKING WITH THE PLAYERS EVERY DAY, THE HUNGER THAT THEY ARE BETTER. WHILE HIS TEAM HAS BUILT SOMETHING SPECIAL AND THE STORY OF THE SAINTS MOST SUCCESSFUL SEASON PROGRAM MAY BE JUST THE BEGINNING OF WHAT FURY AND HIS COACHES ARE ACCOMPLISHING. GAFFNEY. YOU KNOW, NOW WE HAVE A CHANCE TO BUILD A FOUNDATION AND, YOU KNOW, WHAT WILL IT BE NEXT YEAR? YOU KNOW, HOW CAN WE KEEP ADDING TO THIS? BECAUSE OF THE SUCCESS OUR GUYS HAVE HAD? BUT THIS IS DEFINITELY A SEASON TO REMEMBER FOR SURE.

The Limestone football team is enjoying its most successful season in program history this year. The Saints won six games, the most wins they have ever won in a season. Together, that brotherhood has more than 40 years of experience. in the NFL.” I think it comes from playing football, playing in the league,” Todman said. “Being part of something — we know what it takes, we know the hard work that it took to get here and we’re treated like brothers.” Furrey and his team have already made history this year and he says they’re hungry to continue building on that success.” Now that we’ve built a hell of a foundation, how is that going to be next year?” said Furry. “How can we continue to add to that with the success our guys have had?
