The winds of change blew through Baton Rouge last November as Brian Kelly arrived in Baton Rouge. With a new quarterback, a full roster and two top NFL prospects, this LSU football team could shine in the Tigers’ first year under Kelly.
He exploded so quickly for LSU football last year. Ed Orgeron had been the perfect fit at Baton Rouge, but two seasons in 2020 and 21, and he was gone. Enter Brian Kelly from Notre Dame to fill the void.
It shouldn’t fit. But they went from 39 scholarship players at the Texas Bowl last year, for 73 let the season begin. That means there won’t be a ton of depth. However, this year’s LSU team has a talent that will see them very competitive in SEC West from Game 1.

September 4 New Orleans, LA
Florida State gets LSU at New Orleans in a “neutral site” game to start the year.
This will be a tough win for the Seminoles. They return 78% of their production from last season and get Jared Verse from UAlbany, but whether Jordan Travis can be a switcher at quarterback remains to be seen.
It should be a tough fight, but the game in New Orleans makes a big difference. Bayou Bengals victory.
Projected: LSU 27, Florida State 24 (1-0)

Fellow University of Baton Rouge Southern takes a bus a few blocks to play LSU at Tiger Stadium.
The Jaguars were 4-7 last year, although they were 1-4 in one-score games as well. Against FBS opponent Troy last year, they were downed 55-3. Southern should face a similar fate against LSU, if not worse.
Projection: LSU 52, South 6 (2-0)
