NFL, American football, Xavier Hutchinson penalty, video

A college football star in America was the target of a penalty kick that left fans and commentators scratching their heads.

Iowa State wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson beat his Oklahoma opponent to enter the backfield and score a 51-yard touchdown.

But the referee threw a flag and scored Hutchinson’s touchdown, penalizing the college star instead for “taunting” – unsportsmanlike conduct.

The match official objected to the way the goalscorer had headed for the in-goal, with Hutchinson changing his gait slightly to include something similar to a chicken step.

“The touchdown will come back. It’s going to be … mocking? Come on,” exclaimed an Iowa State commentator.

“The kind of thing you never see called. Did he lift the ball?

“The funny police are out. Come on… it’s like the worst call in NCAA history.”

Hutchinson was the star of the game, despite the odd penalty, and was later questioned about the unusual incident.

“I’m never, ever, ever, ever going to look back in my life, or show a milestone in the end zone again,” he said.

“Imma just ran into the end zone and handed the ball to the referee. That’s it.”

Experts on social media seemed unanimous in disagreement with the arbitrator’s decision.
