Seton Hall Prep football team beat Bayonne, 35-6 – Essex News Daily

WEST ORANGE, NJ – In a beautiful ‘homecoming’ Saturday afternoon at Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Field, the Seton Hall Prep football team beat Bayonne, 35-6, on Saturday, September 25. It was the first time the Pirates faced the Bees since 1960. The Pirates improved their record to 4-1 over the season.

In the opening practice of the game, Seton Hall amassed 56 yards in 6 games and senior Jalil Bowen pushed his way from the 2-yard line for the touchdown with 9:27 left in the first quarter and senior Nick Conforti added the first of his five extra points to bring the score to 7-0. The touchdown was established when senior receiver Mac McAteer landed a spectacular one-handed catch at the two-yard line.

After a Bayonne punt, the Pirates covered 48 yards in 6 plays and Bowen scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run with 6:30 left to go for a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. On record, senior quarterback Tyler Marion managed two assists to senior receiver Nick Dunneman for 27 yards.

In the second quarter, Bowen scored his third touchdown on a 21-yard run, Marion hit Dunneman on a 19-yard pass and junior Andrew Daly had an 8-yard run to give the Pirates a 35-0 lead at half-time. Bayonne scored his touchdown with 7:45 left in the fourth quarter.

Notes: At halftime, the 1981 Seton Hall Readiness Championship football team was honored by the school. They were 11-0 and their squad consisted of many players from all over the world and current Hall of Famers at Seton Hall Prep. Two of the captains of this team, Pete Reavey and Frank Gagliano, entered the draw. On Friday, October 1, the Pirates travel to Paramus to take on Paramus Catholic for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
