Shanae’s conflict explodes after a football game

‘The Bachelor’ star Clayton Echard took a step forward and two steps back last week when he became the first bachelor to pick up a rose from rising villain Cassidy, but then seemingly bought off the outrageous bloody story that the new villain Shanae told him about fellow villain Elizabeth.

Clayton was able to see through Cassidy’s tearful facade and send her home, but one can only imagine how he must have felt watching last week’s episode and seeing the cruel victory dance. of Shanae after convincing him that Elizabeth, and not her, was creating a toxic environment. Does anyone else feel like they’re reliving all the bad experiences they had in middle school and high school watching this show right now?

What happened last week? :Clayton Echard Covers Rose, Shanae Stirs Up Drama in ‘The Shrimp Incident’

Add to that the fact that last week’s episode juxtaposed a group date in which the participants discussed racism, body dysmorphia and domestic violence with two other dates in which Clayton and his partner had to romping around Los Angeles in their underwear, and another group date where the attendees wore skimpy “Baywatch” bathing suits, and you have to wonder: do these producers want us to respect Clayton?

Will Clayton develop character judgment skills? Will Cassidy keep the rose she worked so hard for? Will Shanae face the consequences of her willful ignorance?

Let’s dive!

What happened on ‘The Bachelor’ this week?

The episode opens with some of the remaining 18 girls discussing their anxiety over the effect Shanae had on their experience. Elizabeth, in particular, worries about what will happen if Shanae stays.

Clayton brings Shanae and Elizabeth outside, and Shanae instantly insists Elizabeth is making everything miserable for her, sounding like her own version of the “shrimp incident”. Clayton just stares at the floor, staring the same way I hear Shanae talking, then finally has to walk away.

“We don’t resolve disputes, we talk about shrimp,” he quips. What an interesting guy. He talks a lot about conflict resolution, but he actively takes a step back when it comes to resolving conflict. I certainly don’t think he should have to deal with these women’s relationships with each other, but his apparent disconnect from this major situation is puzzling.

Shanae brings a plate of shrimp back to the group and blesses the others, they (especially Genevieve) defend Elizabeth. As the girls all yell at each other, Clayton looks absolutely miserable, then cancels the cocktail party.

We go straight to the cocktail party. Elizabeth, Kira, and Melina are sent home, and I’m now seriously questioning Clayton’s producers’ sense of judgment. I think the others too.

Go Solo: Rachel and Clayton’s BBQ Adventure

Rachel instantly greets Clayton with a big kiss, and they go on a romantic horseback ride through the woods together. Clayton seems in his element, especially when they totally random come across a barbecue held by a totally random Texas family. Hilarious to hear them play this as a chance encounter.

Rachel tells this family she just met how surprised she was by Clayton and how she can see a future with him. The couple have a great time sharing good food and southern beer with this totally random family.

The two retire to a small dock and bond over the pleasure of being together at this rendezvous. That evening at dinner, Rachel explains that being a woman means that as a pilot she has to work harder to prove herself. She adds that her previous relationship did not trust or support her. Clayton, in a moment of genuine reflection, assures her that he wouldn’t want to hold her back, and they slowly dance to a performance of “Restless Road”.

The stakes are especially high when the ladies are split into two teams for the Bachelor Bowl football classic on their group date. Special guests Jonathan Greenard and Kamu Grugier-Hill of the NFL's Houston Texans coach the ladies, while legendary sportscaster Hannah Storm joins Jesse Palmer in the broadcast booth to provide heartbreaking commentary. The intensity on the pitch is no joke as the winners will go to the after-party with Clayton while the losers go home.

Group meeting: Football, a healthy way to resolve conflicts

Sarah, Eliza, Teddi, Marlena, Jill, Susie, Mara, Sierra, Hunter, Lyndsey, Genevieve, Gabby, and Shanae are called in for the group date. Shanae listens as the other girls argue telling her, as a group, that Shanae is toxic.

The girls reunite with Clayton at NRG Stadium, home of the terrible Houston Texans. The group parks in the parking lot until Jonathan Greenard and Kamu Grugier-Hill of the Texans come to inform the women that they will be playing football for the chance to attend the after party with Clayton.

It’s Shrimp Stampede (Shanae is on it, in case you haven’t guessed) against the Purple Punishers (featuring Marlena, Sierra, and Genevieve). Personally, I would like to be on the team with the literal Olympian.

Watching the girls frolic in the football is a delight. Marlena is in a league of her own, scoring a touchdown and a six pick. Shanae and Sierra take the opportunity to tackle each other into oblivion.

The Purple Punishers, highlighted by Marlena, Teddi and Sierra, celebrate their Bachelor Bowl victory at NRG Stadium.

At the after party, Teddi talks about her insecurities about entering a love contest after growing up thinking she had to win her father’s love. Sierra brings Shanae to Clayton and Genevieve. Clayton is frustrated with the whole conflict. So it’s very lucky that Shanae chose this moment to organize the party.

“Uh…hey,” Clayton says, and he looks petrified. After a very manipulative conversation where Clayton sort of accepts everything Shanae says, the couple steals a (very not staged) kissing at the bar before walking over to the women, stealing their victory trophy and throwing it into the bushes.

If Shanae is who I think she is – the chosen villain who has to stick around long enough to piss off people like me – then she’s doing her job well. I still can’t imagine a real human being actually acting that way. Again, I’ve seen people on the internet…and they can compare notes with her. What I wouldn’t give to live in the minds of the men and women chosen to be the bad guys.

Who hasn’t received a rose from Clayton Echard?

What’s next for Clayton?

Niagara Falls, a helicopter date, lots of kisses, and yes, more drama from Shanae: she and Genevieve will go on a date with Clayton, and only one will come out with a rose.

Who is Clayton Echard?

Clayton Echard, our sweet vanilla boy, is a single man of good fortune who needs a wife. Bonus points if you get my referral.

The former Missouri football player has lived quite the life. After going undrafted in 2016, he signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks. He played in all four of Seattle’s preseason games in 2016 and made it past the first round of the cups. As NFL teams whittled rosters down to 53 active players, Echard was cut.

According to Echard’s LinkedIn page, he has worked in sales for medical device company Stryker since July 2016. His first 18 months with the company were based in St. Louis, but he has been based in the Columbia area since January. 2018.

But that’s the boring stuff. Here’s what really matters:

  • Clayton likes to hold women’s thighs. Watch him in any episode – he’s a leg man.
  • He had to switch lip balm brands because of all the kissing he does on the show. The star confirmed on Twitter that chapped lips were becoming a problem.
  • He really appreciates people being open, honest and vulnerable.

Thanks for following. I will be back next week with my hopes and dreams resting on this man rejecting this woman. See you soon, Bachelor Nation!
