SI All-American Football Freak of the Week: Terrell Crosby

“Freak” is too much of a term in the sports world, but sometimes it’s the first sentence that invades the skull when a garish athletic feat takes place.

What about the value of an entire set of head turns and gasps?

SI All-American continues to pay tribute to these dominant high school soccer players in a weekly article, aptly titled “Freak of the Week,” with a standout performance on Friday night.

There was a run of nominees as usual for the honor, but what about the first defensive winner?

He is Terrell Crosbyis the time and he is the monster of the week.

The St. Petersburg, Fla. Lakewood senior is a two-way star for the Spartans and makes plenty of offensive plays on the wide receiver, but his high school job in 2021 was as electrifying as any performer. any side of the ball so far. A commitment to Toledo, he made impact plays every week for the undefeated program, and he hit another level on Friday.

Working against East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs, Fla., Crosby had three touchdowns. Two came in defense via interceptions, bringing his staggering total of interceptions to a pair dozen over seven games in 2021.

“We were in Cover-3, I looked at the quarterback, and the receiver had outside clearance, and I jumped it,” Crosby told SI All-American. “The second was a two-by-two set with an X (receiver) and an S. The X did a go route and the S made an out. We were in Cover-3 again, so I skipped that and it was another six pick.

“I have 12 picks this year, I know I have 12.”

Crosby, who played in a four-steal game earlier in the year, was considered an athlete throughout his recruiting given the considerable and productive experience as a wide receiver. But confidence and production in high school could affect its starting position at the next level.

“I’m settled in and will probably stay with DB now,” he said. “I’m playing the receiver, so I already know what’s going to happen. I’m a good receiver, I’ve been playing it for a while, so it’s getting easy for me. I already know what the receiver is going to do, I’m just forward it. ”

The senior banner of the year for Crosby, on a 7-0 team set to play in the Florida State playoffs, also increased his recruiting reach. Several Power 5 programs are in contact while Tulane recently launched with a scholarship offer.

The elder says he remains on board Toledo, however.
