Sierra Leone Football Association rejects nomination of Mohamed Kallon as FA president

Mohamed Kallon and a host of others saw their candidacies rejected by the Sierra Leone Football Association for their upcoming FA presidential elections.

Urban Districts Football Association nominees, namely Mohamed Kallon, Kasho J. Holland-Cole, and others have written a letter of protest to the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) over what they consider unfair and request an investigation and review of the association presidency appointment process.

The Urban Districts Football Association claims that it proposed and seconded all of the nominations of the aforementioned names.

“The SLFA Secretariat had received all documentation from the FA of the urban districts prior to the day of appointment, including payment of dues and issued a receipt to this effect.” Says the Urban Districts FA in a press release.

The Urban Districts FA further claimed that the nominations and guidelines were only made available to them a few days before the deadline and that they were never informed that they had to submit the minutes. of their last meeting which they said had already been submitted before the day of the appointment.

“However, on the day of the appointment, we provided the minutes given to the Secretary General before the nominations closed. The Secretary General confirms this to the members of the Electoral Committee present during the process. They continued. “Instructions were given by the Secretary General to the staff of the secretariat to accept the applications, but all applications were rejected, keeping the applications and proposing it to the secretariat until January 8, 2021 at midnight. “

In addition, the Urban Districts FA claims that a separate application was submitted by Victor Lewis on behalf of Junior Navo after the closing time and yet it was smuggled in and accepted by secretariat staff.

“We see the preferential treatment accorded to Junior Navo as further evidence of the secretariat’s attempt to influence the process in favor of the incumbent, Ms. Isha Johnsen, and the candidates she has aligned with for other positions. ” The FA of urban districts reiterated. “We therefore ask that our candidacies be accepted in a spirit of fairness and justice.”

In 2013, the SLFA disqualified Kallon and two other candidates (Rodney Michael and Foday Turay) to stand for the presidential election, claiming that Ms. Isha Johansen was the only qualified candidate.
