By Ruben Morales Iglesias: The Belize Men’s National Football Team (BMNT) is on its way to Nicaragua to play two friendlies.
The BMNT left Belmopan this morning just before 8:00 a.m. bound for Santa Elena, Peten, Guatemala. From there, the BMNT will fly to Guatemala City in two groups departing and arriving at different times. The BMNT will again be split into two groups and will operate separate flights to San Salvador, El Salvador.
They will spend the night in San Salvador and travel by bus to Managua where they are expected to arrive Thursday afternoon. The road trip, which takes more than nine hours, includes stops at two borders, the El Salvador-Honduras and Honduras-Nicaragua crossing points.
BMNT travel to Managua to play against the Nicaraguan national team on Saturday January 29 and Tuesday February 1. Both games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
The Belize Soccer Federation introduced the Belize Men’s National Soccer Team, Head Coach David Pérez Asensio and Assistant Head Coach Manuel Poot Can in a virtual press conference on Tuesday.
The presentation comes a day before BMNT travel to Nicaragua to play two friendlies.
The BMNT trip includes:
Goalies: Woodrow West of Verdes and Isaac Castillo of Garden City.
Defenders: Evral Trapp, Norman Anderson and Allence Ayala from Verdes, Collin Westby from Altitude, Donnell Arzu from Wagiya, Ian Gaynair from Garden City, Allan Barillas and Kendale Butler from Altitude.
Midfielders: Jordy Polanco, Darrel Myvett and Eldon Reneau of Verdes, Denmark Casey of Garden City, Warren Moss of Wagiya, Nana Yaw Mensah of NY Greek American (USA), and Rene Leslie and Luis Torres of Altitude.
Forwards: Krisean Lopez and Jesse August from Verdes, Deon McCaulay from Rome Gladiators (USA), Michael Salazar from Memphis 901 (USA).
Technical staff: head coach David Pérez Asensio, assistant head coach Manuel Poot Can, goalkeeper coach Stanley Reneau, physical trainer Dennis Serano, physiotherapist Heidy Polanco, equipment manager Herbert Trapp Jr. and technical director Philip Marin.
Polanco replaced Thomas Rivars who is indisposed.
Verdes keeper Kenroy Tillet has not traveled as he has only had one shot so far.
