The Belize Women’s National U15 Soccer Team now travels to Costa Rica for the Central American Championship

By Ruben Morales Iglesias: The Belize Women’s National Under-15 Soccer Team (BGNT) is currently traveling to Costa Rica to compete in the Central American Football Union (UNCAF) FIFA FORWARD U15 Women’s Championship.

Football Federation of Belize (FFB) technical director Philip Marin said the team departed by road Thursday morning at 5:30 a.m. for Santa Elena, Peten, from where they will fly to Guatemala City. at noon. The BGNT U15s will spend the night in Guatemala City and take another flight Friday at 8:00 a.m. to Costa Rica where they will arrive before noon.

After Guatemala withdraws, Belize will have only two rivals, El Salvador and the Dominican Republic. This caused the Central American Football Union to change the schedule and move all games to a single stadium, José Joaquín ‘Coyella’ Fonseca Stadium in San Jose. Belize’s matches remain the same, except U15 BGNT will now play until Tuesday. Belize’s game against Guatemala is scheduled for Sunday.

The first match of the U15 BGNT will take place on Tuesday June 7 against El Salvador at 4:00 p.m. The second game will be against the Dominican Republic on Thursday, June 9 at 4:00 p.m.

Group A includes hosts from Costa Rica, Nicaragua, guests Puerto Rico and Honduras.

The FFB has selected 21 players to represent the country in the regional tournament to be held in San Jose, Costa Rica from Sunday June 5 to Saturday June 11.

The players called up are:

Goalkeepers – Alisha Alvarez (12), Vadia Myvett (1)

Defenders – Madison Hyde (13), Marcelie Mar (2), Shanalee Smith (6), Athiana Ovando Mai (18), Tannaejah Castillo (19), Jasha Bernardez (4), Kristel Melchor (3)

Midfielders – Arieh King (5), Betsy Perez (10), Lineth Chan (15), Janilyn Cal (16), Raquel Cal (17), Shamika Pollard (14), Jahxann Waight (21)

Forwards – Kenya Perez (9), Shakeisha Jones (11), Gianina Menjevar (20), Alysha Reymundo (7), Aisha Flores (8)

The coaching staff consists of head coach Joseph Waight, assistant coach Paul Casimiro, goalkeeping coach Miriam Villamil, physiotherapist Heidy Polanco, manager Sakenah Lopez, head of equipment Kelsie Ciego and FFB technical director Philip Marin.
