The Erie Express football team will play at the USA Bowl on Saturday in Florida

The Erie Express were champions of the 2021 Gridiron Developmental Football League.

They will now find out how they fare against another of last summer’s semi-professional national titles.

The 11-0 Express is bound for Daytona Beach, Fla., where USA Bowl XV takes place on Saturday. They will face the Iredell County Warriors (North Carolina), who went 12-1 as winners of the Carolinas Elite Football Alliance.

Saturday’s game was organized through the American Football Rules Championship Series, which also organizes such matches between the winners of the spring and fall semi-pro leagues.

This will be Erie’s first appearance in a USA Bowl. The Express achieved this by beating the Inglewood (California) Blackhawks 42-40 in the GDFL Finals last September.

Iredell County, located in southeastern North Carolina, is making its fourth appearance in such a game. The Warriors have been winners for the past two years.

Erie is led by quarterback Brandon Hanna, who threw for 1,162 yards and 20 touchdowns during the regular season.

Solid Vincent grad Donte Harden was the team’s top rushing rusher (319 yards and nine TDs) and former Cathedral Prep and Edinboro University player Koran Williams was its top receiver ( 29 catches for 399 yards and seven scores).
