Uganda set to host Africa Zone Series 2022

Uganda is set to host the fifth edition of the American Football Africa Zone Series at Legends Rugby Ground, Naguru in Kampala City on Sunday 27e November 2022.

This was confirmed by Steven George Okeng, President of the American Football Federation of Uganda (AFFA).

Okeng addressed the media during the press conference at their headquarters in Ntinda, Kampala on Friday, November 18, 2022.

Uganda is set to host the Africa Zone 2022 American Football Series. This is a very important moment for Uganda as a country. We will welcome three other countries. We are making the necessary preparations to make a great championship.

Uganda and Kenya will play full contact while Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will compete in the flag championship.

The American Football Federation of Uganda (AFFA) will provide the expected teams with transport, food, security and partial accommodation.

“The Africa Zone Series is a ranking tournament long before the next continental championship in Ireland in 2023.” Okeng said.

The Africa Zone Series is a championship that started four years ago and which Uganda is hosting for the first possible time.

Government assistance:

Okeng noted that they are waiting for government support in hosting the tournament, along with other partners.

“We expect support from the Ugandan government and other stakeholders. We also work closely with the American and Swedish embassies,” he added.

On the eve of the match, an outreach program is planned in the Naguru slum, a wealthy sports center renowned for producing talented sportsmen.

“The 26e In November 2022, an awareness program is planned in the Naguru slum. We have engaged area leaders in Naguru on gambling awareness. We will walk from Kampala road to Jinja road to Naguru, talk to young athletes. Okeng added.

The Africa Zone Series at Legends Rugby Grounds will be free to all spectators.
